Join the County of Santa Clara’s Sexual Health and Harm Reduction Program (SHHRP) and the County of Santa Clara’s Behavioral Health Services Department for International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) on August 31, 2023 at St. James Park in San Jose. This global campaign aims to prevent overdose, reduce stigma, acknowledge grief, and support families and friends affected by this public health crisis. The theme for the event is Time to Remember, Time to Act.
Our event’s objective is to commemorate those we have lost, raise awareness about local data, and provide information and resources on prevention efforts, strategies, and services. Together, let’s take action and engage in discussions about evidence-based overdose prevention and treatment.
Activities at the event include:
Information on local harm reduction program efforts: Learn about the programs working tirelessly to reduce harm associated with drug use and promote safer practices.
Resources and information on seeking medications for opioid use disorder and substance use disorder and housing services: Discover the available resources and support for those seeking treatment and stable housing options.
Narcan and other supplies distribution: We will provide 200-300 doses of Narcan, a life-saving medication for opioid overdose reversal, along with other essential supplies to prevent harm.
Peer support and treatment navigation: Engage with peers who have lived experience and receive guidance on accessing treatment and support services.
Recognition for heroes who have saved lives: Commemorate the individuals who have made a difference by saving lives and acknowledge the courage and dedication of our community.
Let’s come together as a community to prevent overdose, reduce stigma, and honor those we have lost.
Join us for International Overdose Awareness Day 2023 and help us make a positive impact. Together, we can create change and support evidence-based approaches to save lives.
Please note that this event is open to all and free to attend.
Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of a movement for change. Register now and spread the word to friends, family, and colleagues. Together, we can make a difference and create a safer, more supportive community.
