Two big changes are taking place this year that significantly expand access to Medi-Cal for older adults and people with disabilities. Effective May 1, older adults age 50 and older became eligible for full-scope Medi-Cal benefits regardless of immigration status. And starting July 1, California is raising the asset limit for Medi-Cal programs that still apply an asset test, including the Medi-Cal Aged and Disabled program and Medicare Savings Programs. The asset limit will increase from $2,000 for a single person to $130,000, allowing 18,000 to become newly eligible for Medi-Cal while increasing the economic security of the over 1.4 million enrollees today.
