Event Details
The Rooftop Medicine Farm is the urban outpost for the Deep Medicine Circle(DMC)’s Farming is Medicine project. The DMC is a women of color-led organization formed to heal the wounds of colonialism through food, medicine, story, restoration and learning. Our rooftop farmers use agroecological practices to seed, grow and give away thousands of pounds of nutritious food a month to our community members who are made vulnerable by social structures that create hunger. They also provide ecological care through tending soil and enhancing habitat for the more than human life that keeps the farm healthy and productive.
Come volunteer with us on Thursdays from 1-4pm to help directly support our community’s health! The food we grow is given to Poor Magazine, People’s Programs, Moms4Housing, the Self-Help Hunger Program and UCSF Children’s Hospital Oakland for distribution. We also provide our foods to Wahpepah’s Kitchen to support Chef Crystal in her work to feed community at no cost.
Please bring clothing and gear to protect you from the elements (wind, sun) and a mindset to learn from our farm team! Thank you for your interest in participating in transforming our food system into one based in care–of the earth and the people
